Child Health and Nutrition
Child Health AND Nutrition Programme
The InnerCity Mission for Children is improving the quality of living as well as life expectancy, saving lives one indigent child at a time. One third of deaths per year, most of them women and children are due to preventable and poverty-related causes; such as hunger and poor health. But every child has a right to life and through various Child Health & Nutrition Programs the InnerCity Mission for Children is improving the quality of living as well as life expectancy, saving lives one indigent child at a time.
School Health Program The aim of the School Health Program is to promote the physical, mental and social well-being of children within a school setting thus improving their ability to learn. Indeed, the promotion of the health of learners in schools is a critical step towards quality achievement in education. The InnerCity Mission for Children amongst other things, organizes Medi-Fairs, Healthy Hands Clubs, provides Health Education [for teachers, parents/guardians and pupils], distributes free Sanitary Packs and stocks the School Dispensary.
School Development Projects The purpose is to build a school environment that is conducive for learning through the provision and/or upgrade of basic amenities and facilities such as class rooms, furniture, toilets, boreholes, hand wash stations etc. These facilities are essential to the well-being of any child and ultimately improve the child’s learning experience.
School Feeding Program The link between nutrition and learning is well documented, healthy eating patterns are essential for students to achieve their full academic potential, full physical and mental growth, and lifelong health and well-being. The InnerCity Mission for Children runs an impactful School Feeding Program – we provide pupils one meal a day and in some cases e.g. we do provide breakfast, lunch and a take-home dinner.
The InnerCity Mission Food Bank and Food Drives The InnerCity Mission Food Bank is a sustainable solution aimed at promoting food security amongst the poor and indigent children It is the storehouse of food for onward distribution to those who have difficulty purchasing enough food to avoid hunger. The Food Drive is an initiative specially designed to collect bulk supplies of food to stock the Food Bank thus ensuring consistent availability of food to meet the needs of indigent children and poor families that we support through our various Programs.
