Sony Pictures Entertainment le vendió los derechos de Casino Royale en 1999 a Eon Productions para que Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer les cediera los derechos de Spider-Man para el cine.
Casino Royale era un episodio de 1954 cuando Barry Nelson era Bond, y Peter Lorre era Le Chiffre, el villano, Sony Pictures Entertainment en 1999 le vendió los derechos de Casino Royale a Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer, así MGM le cedía los derechos de Spider-Man a Sony y MGM se quedada con los derechos de Bond.
El primer guion era Bond en Madagascar haciendo de turista.
Quentin Tarantino fue el primer director atado al proyecto, pero no funcionó, la idea de Tarantino era traer de nuevo a Pierce Brosnan y eso estaba fuera de lugar para el estudio. Martin Campbell, en 2005 fue anunciado como director, esta cineasta ya venía de hacer GoldenEye (1995), fue este hombre quién trajo al guionista Paul Haggis que hizo de la película el "Batman Begins" del universo Bond según él mismo expresaría. "Die Another Day" fue tomado como un paso en falso en la saga al ser muy fantasiosa, se buscaba el realismo de Christopher Nolan en "Batman Begins".
Casino Royale se hizo con acrobacias reales, y con ninguna tecnología CGI al viejo estilo antiguo de las películas de los 80's.
Pierce Brosnan terminó su contrato en 2002 con "Die Another Day", así el primer guion de Casino Royale se escribió pensando en Brosnan, más de 200 nombres eran los barajados para ser el nuevo Bond, pero Hugh Jackman y Christian Bale eran los principales favoritos, aunque ambos rechazaron el ser Bond. Luego de este rechazo se pensó en Karl Urban pero este no pudo ir a las audiciones porque estaba ocupado. Henry Cavill estaba listo para ser el nuevo Bond pero se pensó que con solo 22 años estaba muy joven.
Sam Worthington actor de Avatar fue tenido en consideración pero no fue elegido. Michael Fassbender también estuvo cerca del rol pero no fue elegido. Julian McMahon, Ewan McGregor, Rupert Friend, y Antony Starr estuvieron en la lista de candidatos pero no fueron elegidos. Clive Owen se le ofreció el rol pero lo rechazó. Ralph Fiennes era el nuevo candidato pero rechazó el rol. Daniel Craig no estaba en los planes de nadie, pero fue el elegido. David Tennant se dice estuvo en consideraciones para ser Bond pero ni él mismo lo sabía.
Para el papel de Vesper Lynd se pensó en Angelina Jolie y Charlize Theron, Audrey Tautou fue considerada pero se decidió que no era la primera opción. La película The Da Vinci Code, le quitó la opción. Se le ofreció el rol a Rachel McAdams pero lo rechazó. La competencia estaba entre Olivia Wilde y la francesa Eva Green, Green ganó el rol y fue anunciada en 2006.
La película vendió más de 100,000 mil copias en DVD y Blu-ray, Casino Royale fue censurada en USA y Reino Unido por las escenas de sadismo y tortura de Le Chiffre a Bond.
Con sus $606 millones a Nivel Mundial, fue la cuarta película más taquillera del mundo en 2006.

In the annals of rock and roll, where do they fit? They put out 15 albums of excellent original material, and consistently put on entertaining live shows-both of which helped establish a broad if not huge fan base. They had some big hits and have been a major player in the Southern Rock scene. But is that the whole story? In some circles, maybe. But for those who've really gotten to know their music over the years, there's a lot more to the story. ARS was paired with contemporaries Lynyrd Skynyrd as the successors to the Allman Brothers - carrying the mantle of "Southern Rock" in the late 70s.
Based in Atlanta, Georgia, it may have made sense at the time. But performing songs that were more musically diverse and having hits that had a softer, pop sound, the "Southern Rock" label was a mixed blessing and many of their unique musical accomplishments became lost in a genre that has lived on to this day-but never really fit ARS. An Alternate View Here's some other ways to look at ARS.
They weren't out to be rock and roll stars-they were accomplished studio musicians working as a group. They were said to be more influenced by music coming out of England than other music in the South. They shared musical stylings with the Eagles and Fleetwood Mac-both in the quality of songwriting and recorded performances. They were excellent musicians who tried to stretch themselves-think Steely Dan or Little Feat. In many ways, these associations make as much or more sense than any grouping with their Southern Rock kindred. But the music of ARS only reached a mass audience on a couple of occasions. The result: an outstanding song catalog and the talented men responsible for it have been largely overlooked. When those songs are heard, and those talents recognized, the case can be made that ARS are the epitome of all the good things that the phrase "classic rock" implies.
