The Rio Casino is just off the Las Vegas Strip, directly across the I-15 freeway, and it recently transitioned from being managed by Caesars Entertainment to a new-to-Vegas company called Dreamscape, a real estate investment firm out of New York. Frankly, the hotel and casino had become quite run down under Caesars's management, but in recent months, it has received room remodels, new restaurants, and more.
Starting at the valet area, we head inside through what was once a revolving door to find the Lapa Lounge, a new bar with jungle animal statues hanging from the ceiling and a very gold vibe, then it's past the lobby to several banks of slot machines and the sports book. Perusing the "Canteen Food Hall" (AKA "food court") that now sits where the buffet once stood, we stroll past fast casual restaurants like Attaboy Burger and Tender Crush chicken fingers.
Next, we take a look at the pool, Guy Fieri's El Burro Borracho Mexican restaurant, and Hash House A Go Go, a breakfast place known for its oversized portions.
Passing the Penn & Teller Theater, where both the Vegas show is performed and the Penn & Teller hosted TV show "Fool Us" is recorded, we continue into the area that used to hold the Masquerade In The Sky show. That show, where moving parade floats attached to the ceiling hovered overhead and both customers and employees threw Mardi Gras beads to the patrons below, is no more. The space is now mostly empty, with a temporary setup for watching March basketball.
Before heading back to where we began, we check out the KISS (the heavy metal band) themed mini golf attraction then we head upstairs to the showroom where the Chippendales used to perform. Walking along the second floor walkway, we peer down into the space below before heading back downstairs and returning to the front valet and car drop-off area.
The Rio is undergoing a refresh, and while it's not quite fully there yet, it definitely offers some nice amenities, and it's worth checking out.
