PLAZA COLÓN
La plaza Colón es una plaza situada en Mar del Plata, en la provincia de Buenos Aires, Argentina.
Es uno de los espacios verdes más importantes de Mar del Plata, principalmente por su ubicación privilegiada, frente al Casino y al mar. La actual Plaza Colón fue el lugar donde originalmente se ubicó la primera pista de ciclismo de la ciudad.
Esta plaza posee varias estatuas, como la de Don Patricio Peralta Ramos -fundido en bronce-; el monumento a Cristóbal Colón -en mármol-; el monumento a Isabel La Católica, inaugurado el 12 de octubre de 1992; "La Venus de Milo" -en hierro- y "Mujer Bañándose", reproducción en mármol de Carrara de la obra que se conserva en el Museo del Louvre. En 1999, a la plaza Colón se le incorpora la manzana 115, con el nombre de "Plaza del Milenio" en donde se encuentra la segunda Fuente de Aguas Danzantes más grande de Argentina que dejó de funcionar en 2016

Forma parte —junto al Casino Central— del conjunto monumental diseñado por el arquitecto Alejandro Bustillo para la costa de la ciudad de Mar del Plata, llamado oficialmente Rambla Casino.
Historia
En el lugar del actual conjunto monumental, existía desde 1912 la antigua Rambla Bristol y el Paseo General Paz. En 1928, se había llevado adelante un concurso de proyectos para remodelar la rambla, ganado por la propuesta de Andrés Kálnay y Guillermo Meincke, que no fue construida.1 Alejandro Bustillo, arquitecto ya reconocido en la década de 1930, proyectó finalmente la nueva rambla, el Casino Central y el Hotel Provincial en 1937, para el gobierno provincial del conservador Manuel Fresco, del cual era Ministro de Obras Públicas su hermano José María Bustillo.
El 22 de diciembre de 1939, con poco más de un año de construcción, se inauguró el Casino Central;2 y en diciembre de 1941 el presidente Ramón Castillo inauguraba en un acto la nueva Rambla, adornada por dos esculturas de lobos marinos (del escultor José Fioravanti) que se transformarían con los años en la postal favorita de Mar del Plata. Sin embargo, las obras del hotel se prolongaron durante la siguiente década, con el cambio de administración provincial, y el Provincial pudo ser inaugurado recién el 18 de febrero de 1950

Casino Central, ubicado en la rambla homónima, es el casino más importante y famoso de Mar del Plata. Forma junto con el Gran Hotel Provincial un conjunto monumental proyectado durante el gobierno de Manuel Fresco en la década de 1930, siendo uno de los íconos principales de la ciudad.
Descripción
El edificio que lo alberga fue proyectado por el arquitecto Alejandro Bustillo, y fue construido a gran velocidad entre el 15 de julio de 1938 y el 22 de diciembre de 1939 (fecha de su inauguración), durante la gobernación del conservador Dr. Manuel Fresco. El amoblamiento del mismo fue realizado por el mismo Alejandro Bustillo en colaboración del decorador francés Jean-Michel Frank, junto con la casa de decoración Comte.
El conjunto de la Rambla Bristol de Bustillo, o Rambla Casino, está formado por dos grandes edificios gemelos, de un estilo ecléctico, aunque con reminiscencias neoclásicas francesas (estilo Luis XIII), con frentes revestidos en piedra Mar del Plata, ladrillo visto y mansardas en pizarra francesa. Entre ambos se desarrolla una plaza seca, la plaza Guillermo Brown, que ostenta una estatua del almirante. La plaza se abre al mar en una amplia escalinata de piedra, flanqueada por dos famosas esculturas de dos lobos marinos, tallados por José Fioravanti, transformados con los años en íconos de la ciudad.
