The Four Queens Hotel and Casino, located on Fremont Street in downtown Las Vegas, has a history spanning over five decades.
Founding and Early Years
* 1964: Construction began on the Four Queens. The founder, Ben Goffstein, was a former president of the Riviera hotel-casino.
* June 2, 1966: The Four Queens opened its casino to the public. It was named after Goffstein's four daughters: Michele, Benita, Faith, and Hope, with each daughter representing a queen from a deck of cards (Spades, Clubs, Hearts, and Diamonds, respectively).
* August 1966: The hotel, an eight-story structure with 115 rooms, officially opened.
* 1967: Ben Goffstein passed away, and his partner, Tom Callahan, took over leadership.
Expansions and Corporate Ownership
* 1969: A 10-story tower was added, bringing the total number of rooms to 325.
* 1972: Elsinore Corporation, a subsidiary of the Hyatt Corporation, acquired the Four Queens.
* 1977: Jeanne Hood became the president and CEO after her husband, David Hood, passed away. She was one of the few women to hold such a position in a Las Vegas hotel-casino at the time.
* 1981: Another 18-story tower was built, increasing the room count to 716. The property also underwent a $26 million renovation.
* 1996: The casino debuted the world's largest blackjack table. The Four Queens also became a partner in the development of the Fremont Street Experience.
Recent History
* 2003: Terry Caudill, who also owns Binion's Gambling Hall, purchased the Four Queens. Caudill's company, TLC Casino Enterprises, has since managed the property.
* 2003-2007: The hotel underwent a multi-year, $20 million renovation. The casino floor's slot machines were all upgraded, and the Four Queens became the first casino in Las Vegas to offer Blackjack Switch.
* Present: The Four Queens continues to be a prominent fixture on the Fremont Street Experience, occupying an entire city block and known for attractions like the "Queen's Machine," a massive slot machine that can be played by multiple people.
