The exact trigger for the brawl remains unclear, but it is believed to have begun when a group of Hells Angels approached a group of Mongols in the casino's parking lot. Both sides engaged in a fierce physical confrontation, using various weapons such as knives, guns, and even chains. Chaos ensued, with innocent bystanders caught in the crossfire.
During the brawl, a Hells Angels member, Jerome "J.R." Guardado, was shot and killed by a Mongols member, who claimed self-defense. In the ensuing chaos, more gunfire broke out, and several others were injured.
Law enforcement agencies swiftly responded to the scene, leading to a massive crackdown on both clubs. Over 50 members from both the Hells Angels and Mongols were arrested, facing charges ranging from murder to assault with a deadly weapon.
The River Run Riot served as a vivid reminder of the violence and territorial conflicts that often plague outlaw motorcycle clubs. It further intensified the long-standing rivalry between the Hells Angels and Mongols, fueling more confrontations and clashes in the years that followed.
