The Girl Child Needs Your Response

testing

Imagine a world where the girl child can dream and live out their big colorful dreams without fear. This is possible. Growing up as a young girl, with a head full of dreams I looked up to women like Winnie Mandela, the wife of the late iconic Nelson Mandela. She defined the odds by serving as a Member of the South African Parliament from 1994 to 2003, and from 2009 until her death, and was a deputy minister of arts and culture from 1994 to 1996. Despite the gender gap she entered a male dominated entity and she made it. Young girls ought to have role models, people they look up to, it is important because it helps them in painting the kind of life they want to live and the motivation to break the status qou.

Often times on my way to work in the early hours of the morning I get to meet a 10-year-old Promise, “aunty buy my fresh plantain” she says, I look into her glimmering eyes, they are filled with hope for a better tomorrow. Sadly, rather than be in school she supports her family by hawking in the streets.

Girls like her at such innocent age are easily exploited and exposed to crime, rape, the worst you can imagine, yes, they are vulnerable to that too. At a particular morning I sat down with her and she shared with me that one of her biggest is to become a business woman supplying plantain around the world. We parted ways that day but I couldn’t leave without buying her plantain.

This brought tears to my eyes, because young girls like her deserve a chance to live out their dreams. In normal circumstances girls her age should be kept on their toes with different curriculums in school yet she is on the busy streets making a living and worrying about her 3 other siblings.

However, some representatives from the InnerCity Mission were able to find Promise and through the ongoing S.P.A.C.E Campaign she got enrolled in school.

The “Sponsor a Child’s Education”- [S.P.A.C.E] is an all-inclusive, education sponsorship initiative designed to provide indigent children of diverse backgrounds, access to education: from giving out-of-school children a place in the classroom, to providing much needed free scholastic materials, and even constructing free schools for children like Promise in underserved communities around the world.

Because of your continuous giving with the InnerCity Mission organization, little girls like Promise with dreams become women with vision. Join the InnerCity Mission to sponsor quality education for young girls. Take Action and CLICK HERE – icm.ngo/donate
