Mathematics is a very important subject that helps children develop their numeracy and problem solving skills. It introduces children to concepts, skills and thinking strategies that are essential in everyday life. A solid foundation in mathematics is an essential skill for students pursuing any academic degree and that same quantitative capability is necessary for success in life as well.
The InnerCity Mission School Ikeja centre on Thursday, the 7th of March hosted a mathematics competition that had eighty three kids from six schools in attendance.
Each school was represented by two outstanding and bright students in mathematics. It was an interesting event, though very competitive as each contestant tried to give the right answer within the time allocated. They were two rounds in all, with an interlude of dance and drama presentation by the play and learn club members of the InnerCity Mission Ikeja centre.
Value Plus emerged the winner of the mathematics competition, while the InnerCity Mission Nursery and Primary school, Ikeja centre emerged as the first runner up, the InnerCity Mission Nursery and Primary school, Badagry centre emerged as the second runner up.
Certificate of participation and gifts were given to all the participants while plaques were presented to the winner by the Head of Educational program, after which she gave her closing remarks.
