Celebrating the Groundbreaking Ceremony for our 15th 100% Free School in Malawi

Just weeks after holding a groundbreaking ceremony for our 14th school in Liberia, we gathered once again on the 20th of April in the beautiful village of Chisikwa, Nsudwe community, Lilongwe, Malawi, to celebrate the commencement of construction for the 15th 100% free InnerCity Mission School.

The ceremony was well attended by Representatives of relevant government agencies, traditional authorities, community leaders, and diverse stakeholders who came together to express their excitement and gratitude to the InnerCity Mission and its Founder- Reverend DrChris Oyakhilome Dsc. Dsc. DD, for their investment in Malawi.  Speeches were delivered, each echoing a resounding message of support and commitment to ensuring the success of this noble initiative.

Speech Highlights

Honourable Minister of Education, Hon. Madalitso Wilma MP: Commended the InnerCity Mission for addressing the pressing educational needs of orphaned and vulnerable children in the Nation. He emphasized the significance of the school in providing a conducive learning environment and improving access to education in rural areas.

“I commend the InnerCity Mission; you have beautifully demonstrated the spirit of investing in Malawi, and into a community that doesn’t have an adequate number of nursery and primary schools to cater to orphaned and vulnerable children. The construction of this state of the art nursery and primary school is complimenting my Ministry’s effort in providing a conducive learning environment for children in Nsudwe area as well as the entire nation. As you are aware, children in rural areas walk long distances to schools because of the shortage of primary schools. Although my Ministry has approximately 6000 primary schools, they are still failing to provide adequate and equitable access to children. This has resulted in schools with large enrollment and overcrowded classrooms, therefore the school will significantly improve access to education in this area…. Ladies and gentlemen, on behalf of the government, it is my singular honour to declare that the InnerCity Mission Building Project has been officially sanctioned to commence”.

In response, the Director of the InnerCity Mission- Pastor Omoh Alabi thanked the Government of Malawi for their support and highlighted the profound understanding of the educational challenges faced by children, which led to the decision to build the 100% free school.

Traditional Authority, Dr Senior Chief Kalolo, expressed gratitude for the generous support and highlighted the significance of the school, particularly its high-quality infrastructure, which is often rare in rural areas. On behalf of the community, He pledged to ensure the school’s preservation for future generations when completed

“With a heart of gratitude, we say thank you for saying that the school would have a generous number of classrooms and a dispensary. We have heard you say that this school would be a high-quality school meaning that our community is blessed to be beneficiaries. We want to say thank you very much for considering such a rural area because such schools are usually built in the urban areas.  As Chiefs, Parents and Stakeholders of this school, we are going to take good care of it so that it remains for generations to come”.

As the ceremony concluded with prayers offered for the nation of Malawi, there was a palpable sense of optimism and hope for the future.

With the official sanctioning of the building project, the journey towards creating a brighter future for the children of Malawi has begun. The InnerCity Mission remains unwavering in its commitment to expanding its network of 100% free schools, reaching more nations in need and nurturing the potential of every child, ensuring that no one is left behind.
