In the month of April the InnerCity Mission for Children – a member agency of the Chris Oyakhilome Foundation (COF), organized a hope relief mission- providing Food security intervention to several needy households at the Bakassi Internally Displaced Persons camp one of the largest Camps located in Maiduguri, the capital of Borno State and possibly in Nigeria.
Persistent attacks by the Boko Haram insurgents in some parts of the states in North east Nigeria and the safety concerns of the displaced persons on returning to their native communities has prolonged the stay of displaced persons in Internally displaced persons camps { temporary shelters} set up by the government . As well as stretched thin the relief aid they received. So, from time to time, these vulnerable displaced people who have limited or no means of sustenance especially the children face major food insecurity, water crisis as well as limited access to other basic life essentials such as sanitary and hygiene needs.
As always, during the interventions at the Bakassi Camp, special attention was given to women with children, households headed by girls and the elderly however every beneficiary went home with a food package.
The beneficiaries were full of joy and gratitude to the Man of God Pastor Chris Oyakhilome for his expression of love towards them, this practical love that has provided enough for them to eat for a long period of time.
